The mission of International Business School and its subsidiary, The Toronto School of Business, was, and still is, to provide adult students with practical job-skills in as short a time as possible, so that they could apply their newly acquired skills in rewarding jobs and careers.

About Our History
International Business School Inc. (IBS) was originally founded in 1977 in Ontario under the operating name of The Toronto School of Business which was registered as a private career college.

The founder and President was, and still is, Allan N. Ebedes, B.Com., CA, CPA, MBA, GPLLM, ICD.D. Allan, a professional Charted Accountant (CA), saw the need to offer practical training to the staff at many of his clients, and decided to start a school for adults.
​
The first course was an in-person, practical, Introduction to Bookkeeping course that was taught in just 24 hours over 8 evenings or 6 Saturday mornings. All courses were taught by highly qualified and experienced professional Chartered Accountants (CA’s). Class sizes were kept small to allow for personal attention.

The course was extremely successful, and students asked the school to teach them how to use a typewriter and learn keyboarding, also in 24 hours, taught by experienced typists and secretaries. This was followed by more additional levels of keyboarding skills so students could touch-type proficiently at 60 wpm.
​
The Toronto School of Business was one of the very first colleges in Canada to start teaching keyboarding using what was then a brand- new technology: Word Processing! Students were taught using the IBM DisplayWrite and AES dedicated word processors.
Other practical job-skill courses and programs were added over time including: legal secretary, medical office assistant, computer programming, micro-computer applications, travel & tourism, hotel & restaurant operations, fashion merchandising, and dental assisting. ​

International Business School Became The Largest Registered Private Career College In Canada Training Over 10,000 Students A Year At 50 Campuses Coast-to-coast Across Canada Operating In 9 Provinces Under Various Brand Names:
The Toronto School of Business in Ontario, The Career Canada College in Ontario, CompuCollege School of Business in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Atlantic Canada, The Career College in Alberta, and Success Business College in Manitoba.

All campuses were located to be conveniently accessed by public transportation. In Toronto campuses were located on the subway lines at: Yonge & Finch, Yonge & Eglinton; Yonge & Bloor, Yonge & Gerrard, Kennedy & Eglinton, Bloor and Jane, Bloor and Kipling.

In Atlantic Canada campuses were established in St. Johns Nfld., Stephenville, Halifax, Dartmouth, Saint John’s New Brunswick, and PEI.

In British Columbia campuses were established in Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Victoria and Kelowna.
In Alberta campuses were located in Calgary and Edmonton. In Saskatchewan campuses were located in Saskatoon, Regina and Prince Albert. In Manitoba the campus was in Winnipeg.

In 1989 the company was listed on the NASDAQ exchange in New York. A few years later, a very large South African training company, Educor, acquired a majority interest in International Business School and its subsidiaries. By the time the chain was sold to Educor, the schools had trained more than a quarter of a million students!

Allan is now re-establishing International Business School as an on-line school to serve students anywhere around the world! The vision is for International Business School to be truly international! But the original mission has not changed: to offer fast, practical job-skills training taught by highly qualified and experienced online instructors.
